Why 60% of eBay Auctions Don't End in Sales
And a two-pronged strategy to increase your sell-through
by Lynn Dralle
When Robert Green, Auctiva's managing editor, asked me to write this article about why more things don't sell at online auction on eBay, I have to admit I was intrigued. Unique eBay Auctions

Ehh, Just Do It, Doc.
So what do you get the Nike fanatic who seemingly has it all? Bet you never considered produce? Check out this "swoosh" carrot, but be warned: It will not let you play like Mike.

Smoking Hot Potato Head
How do we even begin to describe this listing? Perhaps it's better we don't even try. The title pretty much speaks for itself. It's the only potato we've ever seen that comes with a "cigarette not included" caveat.

Mickey Mouse-Shaped Potato
OK, we know: We're dangerously close to overplaying novelty starchy vegetables in this issue of The Online Seller. But we've always had a soft spot (pun unintended) for silly food listings. Does this one look like the round-eared Disney icon? Sure, but it also looks a little like that Elephant Man, which would've likely been a less successful marketing angle.

In response to "Fallen PowerSellers Get Temporary Amnesty," user "JFS" writes: "This could be an uphill struggle. In 60 days time, the percentage could fall even further if the 60 days that will drop off contain no negatives or neutrals. Well-done Ebay! The Law of Unintended Consequences strikes again." Read the entire thread, and post your response.
